Hot Weather Laboratory ProtectionIn the heat of the Summer it is always nice to get out of those winter coats, sweaters, and long pants and into something light weight like shorts and sandals. There is nothing wrong with wearing shorts and sandals in an appropriate area. The laboratory is not one of those places. In the laboratory we use radioactive materials, hazardous chemicals, potentially infectious microorganisms, and tissue cultures. We wear gloves to protect our hands and safety glasses or goggles to protect our eyes. If you wear shorts, put on a lab coat or gown when working in the lab to ensure that your knees are not exposed to materials that may spill when you are sitting at the lab bench. Open toe shoes are not safe for laboratory work with chemicals and other potentially hazardous materials. Your help in improving safety at the
