The Laser Institute of America (LIA) - the professional membership society working toward the safe use of lasers. They publish the ANSI Z136 series of laser safety standards, which are recognized by OSHA as the authoritative documents for the safe use of lasers.

The Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) , a division of the FDA, provides the public with assurance that medical devices do not cause unnecessary human exposure to man made radiation. This includes medical, occupational and consumer products.
