Federal and Maryland regulations require that all employees who are potentially exposed
to chemicals, asbestos, Bloodborne pathogens in the workplace have a legal right to be
informed of hazards associated with such an exposure. All employees who are potentially
exposed have a legal right to receive training on relevant subjects.
- Hazard Communication training contains relevant information on services
provided by the EHS requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration
(OSHA) and the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH). It also includes a brief
description of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs), and where they can be obtained.
Furthermore, certain toxicological information is also provided.
- Level I Asbestos training contains relevant information on the State of
Maryland asbestos program, and the University asbestos program. Employees also need to be
aware of health hazards of asbestos exposure, be able to identify areas and material that
may contain asbestos.
- Bloodborne Pathogens training contains a general explanation of the
epidemiology and symptoms of Bloodborne diseases and a discussion on the modes of
transmission of Bloodborne diseases. It also includes an explanation of the regulatory
text of OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogen standard. Employees also need to be made aware that the
Hepatitis B vaccine is offered to them free of charge.
