BE SAFE, REPLACE

Research has shown that single station home smoke detectors only have a reliable service life of 10 years.  Place a date on the inside cover of your smoke detector(s) when purchased, and replace them every 10 years.  If you are in doubt about the age of the detectors in your home, be safe and replace them.  They do not cost much and may save your life.

Have at least one smoke detector on each level of your home.  Place one outside the sleeping area(s).  Install as many other smoke detectors as you can afford.  Ideally, there should be one in every room except bathrooms and kitchen.
