The Penn Street
Garage is a ten level pre-cast open air parking facility
of fire resistive construction. The ground level houses
a tenant space occupied by the Medical School. Mechanical
and electrical equipment rooms are also located on the
ground level.
The facility has a wet pipe sprinkler system in the tenant
space and managers areas. Manual dry pipe standpipes
with fire department 2 1/2 inch hose connections are
located within each stairway landing plus two other
locations within the garage. Fire department
connections are located on Penn Street and Pratt Street
sides of the building. Knox FDC caps are installed
on the fire department connections to prevent vandalism.
Portable fire extinguisher's are located
throughout the facility.
One enclosed and one open stairway, plus ramps provide
sufficient exiting capacity.
An interior fire alarm system consisting of manual pull
stations, audible/visual devices, smoke & heat detectors,
sprinkler water flow alarms and valve supervisory switches
transmits a signal to the Pine Street Police Station.
Fire department suppression equipment has access on all
sides of the structure.
The south-east portion of the first floor has been finished
as an office facility. This space has exiting to the
east and south. The fire alarm system for the garage
also includes this space.
A Knox Box has been installed next
to the annunciator panel with keys for elevators, mechanical areas,
electric areas and fire alarm panels to be used by the
fire department as needed.
A Knox Box has also been installed
on the exterior of the building at the Penn Street
vehicle entrance with a key for the roll up door when
the garage is closed. A key for the Knox FDC
is also located in the Knox Box.
This facility is classified as business and parking garage. |
