Pearl Street Garage

626 W. Fayette Street
(Constructed 1990)
282,696 Square Feet

Fire Box 13-41

The Pearl Street garage is a seven level pre-cast open air parking facility of fire resistive construction. The structure straddles Pearl Street with elevated parking on both sides. The first level, west side houses a parking office (for the garage), elevator lobby, mechanical equipment rooms, and part of the University's Operations and Maintenance shops. The second level, West side houses the UMB Parking Offices and additional O& M shops. The below grade level and first level, east side houses the balance of the O&M Maintenance shops. A loading dock is located at the North-East end of the first level as part of the O&M shops. The balance of the building is for parking.

There are two enclosed two hour fire rated stairways which provide adequate exiting from all levels of the building.

The garage has an interior fire alarm system consisting of manual pull stations and heat detectors at the elevator lobbies, smoke detectors, duct detectors, and water flow switches which transmit a signal to the Pine Street Police Station.

All occupied areas are protected with a wet pipe sprinkler system. Water flow alarms and valve supervisory devices are interconnected with the fire alarm system. There are four dry standpipes with fire department hose valves located on each level.  Fire department connections are located on the Pearl Street side of the West Building and the Pearl Street side of both buildings.  Knox FDC caps have been installed on the fire department connections to prevent vandalism.

Portable fire extinguisher's are located throughout the facility.

An emergency electrical generator supplies power to selected lighting and the fire alarm system.

A Knox Box has been installed next to the annunciator panel with keys for elevators, mechanical areas, electric areas and fire alarm panels to be used by the fire department as needed.  A Knox Box has also been installed on the exterior of the building at the Fayette Street vehicle entrance with a key for the roll up door when the garage is closed.  A key for the Knox FDC caps has also been located in the Knox Box.

This building is classified as a Storage, Business and Industrial Occupancy.
