The Maryland Bar Center is a
four storied plus basement building of heavy timber
construction with an exterior brick wall approximately 8 -
10 inches thick.
The facility is equipped with an internal fire alarm
system consisting of manual pull stations, smoke
detectors, heat detectors, duct detectors and
audible/visual devices which transmit signals to the
Pine Street Police Station.
A wet pipe sprinkler system protects the total
structure with water flow alarms and valve supervisory
switches interconnected into the fire alarm system.
The sprinkler and standpipe systems are boosted by a 500
gpm fire pump located in the basement. The fire
department connection is located on Greene Street.
Knox FDC caps have been installed on the fire department
connection to prevent vandalism.
Portable fire extinguisher's are located
throughout the facility.
The building is heated with two natural gas fired
boilers.
Two fire rated enclosed stairways provide sufficient
exit capacity for floors one through four. The basement
occupants have one fire rated enclosed stairway up to
the first floor and stairs out to the public way on
the west side of the building. Persons with disabilities
accessibility has been provided on the east side via
a ramp into the first floor. One elevator serves all
levels.
Fire department suppression
equipment has access on the South and West sides only.
