The current University of Maryland Law School is a five story building constructed in 2002 of non-combustible materials.  The building contains offices of the Law School and School of Social work, instructional facilities, and mock courtrooms. Three enclosed fire rated stairways provide sufficient vertical exiting capacity.  There is a basement mechanical room under the east wing.  Roof access is available from the SW stairwell and the 5th floor mechanical room.

It is equipped through out with a wet pipe automatic sprinkler system, fire department hose valves in all stairwells and a roof hydrant at the top of the SW stairwell. The system is provided with the correct water pressure through a 750 GPM fire pump located in the basement mechanical room.  Each floor is divided into two fire zones with water flow and valve supervisory devices interconnected into the building fire alarm system for each zone.  The fire department connection is located on Baltimore Street near the main entrance.  Knox FDC caps have been installed on the fire department connection to prevent vandalism.

Portable fire extinguisher's are located throughout the facility.

A complete automatic fire alarm system is installed through out the building, consisting of manual pull stations, audible/visible devices, smoke and heat detectors duct detectors (supervisory) which transmit a signal to the Pine Street Police Station.

Fire department suppression equipment access is available on the South, West, and East sides.  The fire department connection is located on Baltimore Street near the main entrance.

A Knox Box has been installed next to the fire alarm annunciator with keys for elevators, mechanical areas, electric areas and fire alarm panels to be used by the fire department as needed.  A key for the Knox FDC caps is also located in the Knox Box.

The building is classified as a Business and Assembly Occupancy.
