Pascault Row Student
Housing 651 through 665 W. Lexington Street consists
of eight row houses converted into 49 efficiency apartments
and 24 one bedroom units. These buildings are listed
on the Maryland Historical Building Rolls.
The original houses are of ordinary construction with
brick exterior walls, and are five levels in height.
The new portions of each unit, south side, are of ordinary
construction with troweled on masonry over cement block
walls and are two stories in height. The basement level
contains one resident manager's apartment , storage
locker rooms, office, laundry room, mechanical, and
electrical equipment rooms, and the apartments for the
handicapped. A common corridor runs the entire length
of the basement and is separated by one hour construction
in four locations. The fire doors in the separations
are held open with electromagnetic hold open devices
hooked into the building fire alarm system.
The building is equipped with an interior fire alarm
system consisting of manual pull stations, water
flow devices and audible/visual
devices which transmit a signal to the Pine Street Police
Station. Each of the four handicapped units have smoke
detectors which are interconnected with the fire alarm
system. The handicapped apartments are also equipped
with high intensity strobe lights which flash when the
complex's fire alarm system activates. The balance of
the living units have smoke alarms which sound only
within the dwelling unit. Portable fire extinguishers
are located in each apartment and exit corridors.
The entire building is protected with a residential
wet sprinkler system. The system contains a water flow
alarms, and valve supervisory switches connected to the
building fire alarm system. Standpipes are located
with hose valves on each level of the stairwells.
The fire department connection is located on Lexington
Street. Knox FDC caps are installed on fire
department connections to prevent vandalism.
Portable fire extinguisher's are located
throughout the facility.
Fire Department suppression equipment has access on
the north, south and west sides of the building.
A diesel powered emergency generator is located
outside at the west end of the complex and provides
power to the building and life safety systems.
A Knox Box has been installed next
to the annunciator panel with keys for mechanical areas,
electric areas and fire alarm panels to be used by the
fire department as needed.
A key for the Knox FDC caps is
also located in the Knox Box.>
