The University Suites Housing Complex is composed of several renovated buildings, including the Century, Eddy, Dispensary, and Poe Townhouses combined with a new sixteen story high rise tower of protected steel and fire resistive construction and brick faced exterior walls.  The facility contains apartments available to students, faculty, and staff.  A two level parking garage is located on the lower two levels with access from Greene Street.

The building is totally protected with a wet pipe sprinkler system on occupied floors and a dry pipe system in the parking garage levels.  The fire department connection is located on the East side of the building on Fayette Street.  Fire department suppression equipment has access to the West, South, and limited East sides of the structures.  These systems are supported by a 750 gpm fire pump located in the basement.  Knox FDC caps have been installed on the fire department connection to prevent vandalism.

Portable fire extinguisher's are located throughout the facility.

A complete fire alarm system consisting of manual pull stations, audible voice/visible alarms, sprinkler water flow and valve supervisory devices and duct smoke detectors (supervisory signal only) has been installed.  Single station local smoke alarms are located in all apartments.

A Fire Command Center (FCC) is located in the Ground Floor to the left of the elevator lobby.  The FCC contains the following equipment:

  1. Firefighter phone system with handsets.
  2. Building PA System via the voice evacuation alarm system.
  3. A dedicated outside telephone line not within the UMB system.
  4. Main fire alarm control panel.
  5. Elevator status panel.
  6. Smoke control system controls.
  7. Status of emergency generator annunciation display.
  8.   Building plans.

Firefighter telephone jacks are located within each stairway landing and each elevator lobby.

Exits directly to the outside of the building are available from two pressurized stair towers located on the East and West side of each floor.

Access by persons with disabilities is via the main entrance located on the South side of the building.

A Knox Box has been installed next in the fire command center with keys for elevators, mechanical areas, electric areas and fire alarm panels to be used by the fire department as needed.

This building is an residential apartment/storage (parking garage) occupancy.
