Allied Health Building

100 S. Penn Street
(Constructed 1993)
69,237 Square Feet

Fire Box 13-46

The Allied Health building is a five storied structure of fire resistive construction. The edifice was constructed to replace two former UMB (Health Sciences and Allied Health) facilities which were turned over to UMMS and subsequently demolished. The facility has two fire rated enclosed stairways located in the north-west and south-west corners. Both stairs terminate to the outside. A third fire rated stairway is located in the center of the structure with exiting to the public via the first floor lobby.

The structure is totally protected with a wet pipe sprinkler system. Fire department use 2 1/2 inch hose valves are located at each floor level in all three stairs plus a double 2 1/2 inch roof hydrant. The sprinkler and standpipe systems are interconnected to a 750 GPM fire pump. This pump is connected to the buildings emergency electric generator. A fire department Siamese is located on the southeast (Penn Street) side of the facility.  Knox FDC caps have been installed on the fire department connection to prevent vandalism.

Portable fire extinguisher's are located throughout the facility.

A fire alarm system consisting of manual pull stations, audible/visible alarms, duct smoke detectors, elevator smoke recall detectors and heat detectors, sprinkler water flow and valve supervisory devices have been installed. This system transmits a signal to the Pine Street Police Station.

Fire department suppression equipment has access on the North, East, and South sides of the structure.

A Knox Box has been installed next to the fire alarm annunciator panel with keys for elevators, mechanical areas, electric areas and fire alarm panels to be used by the fire department as needed.  A key for the Knox FDC caps is also located in the Knox Box.

The building is classified as a Business Occupancy.
