The 100 N. Greene Street Building
is a six storied with basement building of heavy timber construction,
brick exterior walls and a "built-up" roof. This structure
houses a tenant space occupied by a commercial bank on the first
floor. The balance of the facility contains offices and conference
rooms for the University.
The building is totally protected with a combination standpipe/wet
pipe sprinkler system. These systems are supported by a 250 gpm
fire pump located in the basement. Fire department standpipe 2 1/2
inch connections are located on each floor landing in the east stairwell.
A fire department connection is located on the South (Fayette
Street) side of the building. Knox locking FDC caps are installed on
the fire department connection to prevent vandalism. Fire department suppression equipment has access to the east,
south and west sides of the structure.
Portable fire extinguisher's are located
throughout the facility.
A complete new addressable fire alarm system consisting of manual pull stations,
voice/visible alarms, sprinkler water flow and valve supervisory
devices and duct smoke detectors (supervisory signal only) was
installed in 2008 and is interconnected to the Pine Street Police Station.
Firefighter phone stations were installed in elevator lobbies floors
2-6 and the basement level for use by persons requiring rescue
assistance.
Two fire rated interior enclosed stairways provide adequate exiting
to the exterior public way for floors two through six. The bank
on the first floor may exit via the lobby on the east side or through
the west stairs into the alley on the west. The basement area may
exit by way of steps to the south side of the facility or up by
means of the east and west stairways.
Access by persons with disabilities is via the main entrance and
then by elevator to the upper floors.
A Knox Box has been installed next to the fire alarm panel with
keys for elevators, mechanical areas, electric areas and fire alarm
panels to be used by the fire department as needed. A key for
the Knox FDC caps is also located in the Knox Box.
