Emergency Fire Evacuation Plans

In order to provide a safe environment for all University employees, a specific EMERGENCY FIRE EVACUATION PLAN is needed. The Maryland State Fire Prevention Code requires that all University occupied facilities have at least one Fire Exit Drill per year. The University strives to meet this goal.

EHS designs a specific generic plan for each different building on the campus. Within this plan are specific directions on evacuation via emergency fire stairs and exits. Floor Fire Wardens are selected for each floor of the building from the staff of those floors. These Floor Fire wardens are trained in their duties and responsibilities by the EHS Fire Protection Specialist. Shortly after this training, a Fire Evacuation Drill is conducted. This drill involves Public Safety (Campus Police), Facilities Management, Operations and Maintenance and EHS. All drills are evaluated by EHS staff to ascertain how the fire drill proceeded. If needed, re-drills are conducted.
