Annual
Certification of Biosafety Cabinets
Biosafety cabinets are primary barrier protection for individuals
working with biologic materials. This equipment must be properly
maintained by getting them certified every year.
- All biosafety cabinets must be certified annually.
- New biosafety cabinets must be validated by certification
before they are put into service.
- All biosafety cabinets must be certified
after they have been repaired or relocated.
- Annual biosafety cabinet certification is required
according to:

- The NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant

Suggested Source for Certification and Repair Service
- B&V Testing Inc. is the only vendor that has a contract
with the University of Maryland (contract # 79801-L) to provide
certification and testing of biosafety cabinets and full
repair services by NSF-accredited technicians.
